NCSTMA Fall Sports Turf Managers' Field Day

Held September 16th, 2008
written by Casey Reynolds

The NCSTMA fall sports turf managers’ field day on September 16th at Elon University was a huge success! Over 70 sports turf managers from colleges, high schools, and Parks/Rec facilities were in attendance to meet in fellowship and discuss athletic field maintenance.

The morning began with snacks and refreshments provided by Dusty Rhodes, member of Elon University’s Board of Trustees, followed by presentations from NCSU Faculty and Staff on Weed Control and Storage, and Overseeding Bermudagrass Athletic Fields. Representatives from Smith Turf were also in attendance to discuss Low Budget Equipment Options: Leasing v/s Purchasing. Morning sessions were followed by lunch, also provided by Dusty Rhodes, and a “press-box” tour of Elon’s athletic facilities by Larry Rhodes, who oversees all of Elon University’s athletic fields.

Special thanks to all the attendees, as well as Larry Rhodes for hosting our event. New member registration at this event has pushed our membership to over 120 members which is great for our first year! As always, please feel free to contact us with questions, ideas for seminars, locations, or anything else we can provide to better serve the sports turf managers of North Carolina.

If you know of anyone in North Carolina that should be recognized for their contribution to the sports turf industry or for their outstanding playing surfaces, please e-mail us so we can profile them in the future.
